After entering the British Art Medal Society (BAMS) student medal project with my crab medal, I was awarded by Bigbury Mint 2017 award for use of both sides and the edge! It was a huge amount of fun to be working in wax again especially on the topic of nostalgia of my childhood by the sea.
Name and description of the medal below!
Named 'Keen Eyes / Open Hand'
"How many hours did we spend leaning over the edge of a rock-pool, hand out in front of us, ready to point, prod and grab? A well spent youth. Jumping from rock to rock like agile mountain goats on the slippy rocks looking for dolphin eggs. On the other hand, a crab was just as good of a find.
Only now as I am no longer a child only thinking of myself, I do wonder how the crab felt after we inspected, moved and poked him. Maybe that’s why this crustacean medal looks so nervous!"
